Katherine Spence lives and works in South East London specialising in Fine Art Painting, Photography, and Film.
With works displayed currently at Ceconnis Oxfordshire, Soho House, The Lido - Margate and more - Katherine is beginning to expand her portfolio as a painter as well as expanding her works into the areas of film and photography.
Study:
Bachelor’s Degree: Chelsea College of Arts in Fine Art.
Foundation: Camberwell College of Arts - Illustration.
Artist Statement:
“My current work explores themes of constraint, transformation, and the tension between structure and fluidity. I am drawn to objects that suggest movement yet remain rigid—forms that should bend but instead hold fast. In a recent series, I cast latex in gelatin moulds, creating skin-like textures that speak to fragility, containment, and resistance.
Through photography, sculpture, painting and installation, I document these transformations, interrogating ideas of power, control, and the passage of time. What does it mean to be held within a shape that does not allow for true movement? And how do we navigate the boundaries between stability and oppression?
In many ways, the constraints present in my works reflect my own experiences with health—how the body, like the structures I create, can become both a vessel of strength and a site of limitation.”
